These are a few plants that may get your attention.

Flame Grass
Be careful with this grass because although it is sold in Canada, it is zone 7-9 and has to be dug out each winter and potted unless you live in B.C. But it is worth the trouble for a spectacular red summer grass four feet high.
Porcupine Grass
You may have to look for this grass. Many nurseries, unless they deal in grasses, misname the grasses. This is a good one if you can find it.
Late Tulip
These late tulips may interfere with other oncoming early flowers because they have to be tied up green after the flower fades in order to keep life in the bulb for next year.

Chinese Silver Grass (miscanthus floridulos)
This is also called Giant Miscanthus. It is very hardy and grows 15 feet tall. It has to be cut back to the ground every April 1st. But it looks spectacular even through the winter.
The Iris bulb has to be planted in October partially uncovered.
